+ What is the DCMMP?
The District of Columbia Medical Marijuana Program (DCMMP) is a city-wide patient registration program that was signed into law by the Mayor on May 21, 2010.
+ Why was the DCMMP Established?
The Department of Health was tasked with creating the process and procedures that qualifying patients, caregivers, and physicians registered to obtain and use medical marijuana.
+ How do I register for the DCMMP?
To become a registered patient, a person must make an appointment with a health care practitioner that may authorize the use of marijuana.
+ What are the qualifying medical conditions?
A patient must be diagnosed by a qualifying medical professional for one of the following conditions:
- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
- Multiple sclerosis
- Epilepsy or other seizure disorder, or spasticity disorders.
- Patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy, using azidothymidine or protease inhibitors,
- Decompensated cirrhosis
- Lou Gehrig's disease
- Cachexia or wasting syndrome
- Alzheimer's Disease
- Seizure disorders
+ Who are the qualified medical professionals?
A licensed physician in good standing to practice medicine or osteopathy in the District of Columbia, may recommend the use of medical marijuana to a qualifying patient if the physician has a bona fide physician-patient relationship with the qualifying patient.
+ What DCMMP Applications and Forms am I required to submit?

Select the Healthcare Practitioner who referred you to the Medical Marijuana Program:
- Physician (MD, DO)
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse / Nurse Practitioner (APRN/NP)
- Physician Assistant
- Naturopathic Physician
+ How much cannabis can I posses while registered under the DCMMP?
Patients are permitted to purchase up to two (2) ounces of dried medical marijuana per month or the equivalent of two ounces of dried medical marijuana when sold in any other form.
+ What about Primary Caregivers Registered under the DCMMP?
A qualifying patient may designate one licensed health care practitioner, spouse, domestic partner, case manager/worker, or close friend, parent, sibling, child, or other close relative, to serve as a primary caregiver to assist the qualifying patient’s medicinal use of marijuana for the purposes of this act.
